Choosing car accessories that earn their space
Most car accessory shops sell everything and know nothing about any of it. We sell twelve things. This page is the short version of how we think about them, and how to pick what is actually worth keeping in your car.
Start with what goes wrong
The useful way to choose is not by category but by failure. A car strands you for three common reasons: the battery is flat, a tyre is flat, or a warning light has appeared and you do not know how serious it is. A jump starter, an inflator and a code reader cover all three, and between them they cost less than one recovery callout.
Everything else is comfort. Worth having, but not the same order of priority.
Ratings are the whole story
The single most common mistake with car kit is buying something rated below the job. A jack has a tonnage. A wrench has socket sizes. An inflator has a pressure it will reach and a duty cycle it will tolerate. A roof bag is limited not by its own size but by your car's maximum roof load, which is in your handbook and is lower than most people expect.
We put those numbers on the product page rather than in the small print, because checking them against your own vehicle takes two minutes and prevents the only genuinely dangerous mistakes on this site.
What a tool will not do
A tyre inflator tops up a tyre that is already on the rim. It will not seat a bead on a fresh tyre and it is not a workshop compressor for air tools.

Keep it charged and keep it accessible

Top up anything with a battery a few times a year, check it before a long trip or a cold snap, and keep it where you can reach it without unloading the whole boot.
The inside of the car
Interior accessories work on behaviour rather than engineering. A bin gets used if it is within reach and ignored if it is in the boot. A seat gap filler works because it removes the reason you reach down while driving, which is the part that actually matters. A vacuum gets used if it is cordless and gets ignored if it needs an extension lead out of a window.
